African Celebrations
In this performance-based workshop,
students will use movement and song to
explore the rich music culture
that is unique to West Africa.
Students will perform traditional folk
songs and chants and use dance
as a means of celebration, as a
form of storytelling, and as an
expression of unity. The class will also create
polyrhythms, sing in 'call and response,' and play
traditional West African instruments. The integral
roles of musician and dancer will be explored, as well
as the importance of 'active listening' in collective
music-making will be discussed.
Hip Hop
The Modern Beat
This fun and energy-filled workshop will have students
dancing to a variety of urban-style music. In
addition to learning about the roots of
hip hop dance, the participants
will learn about proper stretching,
performance techniques, as well as
partcipate in individual and group
work. A final choreographed piece
will be presented at the end of the
workshop.

Creative Movement
The Imagination Dance
In this
interactive workshop, students will use their imaginations
and creative impulses to respond to visual, aural
and emotional stimuli, as a means in producing structured
and meaningful movement sequences. Role-play, improvisation
and creative movement arrangements are all incorporated
into this dance-based workshop. This workshop is tailored
to explore a specific theme. Examples of workshop
themes include: dinosaurs, life cycles, movement fundamentals,
spring or space.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Broadway Bound
From the roaring 20's to modern day, musical
theatre dance has captivated audiences for
decades. This unique workshop will give
students hands-on experience while learning
from a professional choreographer. Students
will work on stretching, technique, as well as
individual and group work using songs
from a variety of musicals. A final
choreographed piece will be presented at
the end of the workshop to share with
fellow students. |
