Outreach Program UpdateAFC has had many exciting programs on the go this fall! Along with its school-based programming, AFC has stepped up its community outreach initiatives and now serves children and youth in Jane & Finch, Regent Park,Victoria Village, Weston Mt. Dennis and Scarborough Village. Check out some of our most recent highlights: Rockcliffe Sculpture OpeningThis November saw the official unveiling of White Pine, a 12 foot high tree sculpture permanently installed in the Rockcliffe Middle School lobby. This is one of many projects funded by HSBC Bank Canada through AFC's Environmental Awareness Arts Program. My City, My ArtCommunity Sharing Project in the Jane & Finch NeighbourhoodTen children and youth recently celebrated the completion of a series of murals as part of an arts program conducted by AFC at Youthinc, a youth employment centre in the Jane and Finch Mall. Under the guidance of artist, Jennifer Chin and youth arts assistant, Christian Carrizo, these talented young people expressed their vision of Toronto through the creation of My City, My Art.These ten painted panels will be donated to the Jane and Finch community as part of AFC's new Community Sharing Initiative. This is the first of many such projects that Arts for Children will be involved in during the coming year. AFC is grateful to our community partners, Toronto Culture - Arts Service and JVS Toronto, for their commitment to the work being done at Youthinc. Best of all, this dynamic partnership has made it possible to extend this program for another twenty-six weeks! AFC Arts Adventure Camp: Summer 2006With its third season under its belt, the Arts Adventure Camp has become an important fixture in the West End of Toronto. This summer brought many exciting improvements to the camp, most notably, bus transportation, increased training for staff and lower staff-to-camper ratios. The bus service greatly increased accessibility for campers living outside the immediate neighbourhood of the camp site. And another milestone: AFC Arts Adventure Camp received its accreditation from the Ontario Camping Association this fall. The OCA ensures that its members adhere to the highest standards with regard to health & safety, leadership, food service, maintenance, staffing, programming, and administration. AFC is proud to have earned the honour of being added to the great list of OCA accredited camps! So what's in store for 2007? You'll have to wait and see!
